Gallet Racine 1930-40 Vintage Military Style Field Watch.
 
Vintage Gallet Racine military field watch. Great looking and very interesting gents field  wristwatch. 
Gallet has a rich history of producing fine watches and this WW2 era field watch is no different.
 
There is no evidence to suggest this is a contract issued military watch in fact I'm quite sure it isnt and would never advertise as such, but it's definitely a pretty field watch from the era.
This watch is signed on the dial as Racine after the Gallet brothers cousin, Joules Racine  who distributed  the watches in the USA under the brand Racine and all components were supplied by Gallet.
Another famous Swiss watchmaker of the period who in turn is related to Gallet brothers by blood is Enicar watch company, so some serious watchmaking family connections.
 
That dial is such a interesting piece when really studied, from that beautiful patina and colouring that only time can give to it's warm creamy eggshell dial. You have the railroad style seconds in white round the outer circumference of the dial with the twelve hour big bold Arabic numerals that have that warm brown colour. Followed by the smaller 24 hour denominations. The cathedral  thermally blued hands and the long red seconds hands.
 
The solid stainless steel  case with inner dust cap protector has relatively long lugs at 38mm and a lovely teardrop style to them in side profile. The watch is running strong on the timegrapher with a strong amplitude and no beat error.
 
Condition is good, please study the images.The dial is 33mm, not including the crown & 35mm including crown.Lug to lug of 38mm and thickness of 12mm including crystal.
 
The watch is not a fixed lug so you can use two piece straps as well. The 18 mm lug width gives it more wrist presence as does  the military strap and  means it will look good on most size wrists. For reference my wrist is 6 and  3/4 inches.
 
 
Fitted with a  lovely new  Condor, German made  military style soft leather grain  reddish brown strap at a cost of £35.
It suits the watch so well and gives you three different options of wearing the watch.
